Use features to configure conda or pixi to access Anaconda package channels. [Log in](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication) before you begin.

## Usage

To list features available in your build, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana feature list
```

To enable or disable a feature, use:

```sh theme={null}
ana feature enable [OPTIONS] [NAME]
ana feature disable [OPTIONS] [NAME]
```

### Arguments

<GTable cols="25% 75%">
  <GHead><GRow><GTH>Argument</GTH><GTH>Description</GTH></GRow></GHead>

  <GBody>
    <GRow><GCell>`NAME`</GCell><GCell>The feature to configure. The available feature is [`main-x`](#main-x), which adds the main-x channel to your conda or pixi configuration. Omit to show help.</GCell></GRow>
  </GBody>
</GTable>

### Options

<GTable cols="25% 75%">
  <GHead><GRow><GTH>Option</GTH><GTH>Description</GTH></GRow></GHead>

  <GBody>
    <GRow><GCell>`--conda`</GCell><GCell>Configure conda (the default)</GCell></GRow>
    <GRow><GCell>`--pixi`</GCell><GCell>Configure pixi instead of conda</GCell></GRow>

  </GBody>
</GTable>

Run separate commands for conda and pixi. The `--conda` and `--pixi` flags are mutually exclusive.

## Main-x

The [`main-x` channel](/docs/getting-started/main-x) provides 13,000+ additional Anaconda-curated packages alongside the standard `main` channel. Install conda or pixi before enabling it. If you need an environment manager, see [Install an environment manager](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/getting-started#install-an-environment-manager).

### Enable main-x

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="conda">
    To configure conda, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    ana feature enable main-x --conda
    ```

    Review the displayed `conda config` commands before confirming. To inspect the resulting configuration, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    conda config --show channels default_channels
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="pixi">
    To configure pixi's global defaults and repository authentication, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    ana feature enable main-x --pixi
    ```

    Review the displayed changes before confirming. To inspect the resulting global configuration, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    pixi config list --global
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Review the proposed changes before confirming, especially if you already use custom channels. Enabling the feature changes where your package manager looks for packages; it does not install packages into your environments.

### Configuration changes

Ana configures `main-x` alongside `main`, `msys2` ([EOS](/docs/reference/policies-practices/software-version-support#end-of-support-eos)), and `r` ([EOS](/docs/reference/policies-practices/software-version-support#end-of-support-eos)), choosing the repository addresses for your account's subscription. For conda, it updates `default_channels` and enables `defaults`. For pixi, it updates global `default-channels` and saves repository credentials.

Read the terms-of-service notice shown by the command. Enabling a channel does not change your subscription or its licensing requirements. For more about channel configuration, see [Channels](/docs/getting-started/working-with-conda/channels).

### Disable main-x

Use the same package-manager flag you used when enabling the feature:

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="conda">
    ```sh theme={null}
    ana feature disable main-x --conda
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="pixi">
    ```sh theme={null}
    ana feature disable main-x --pixi
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Disabling removes `main-x` from the selected tool's default channels, but keeps the other channels. If you added `main-x` elsewhere yourself, remove that entry separately. Ana warns if `main-x` is still enabled for the other tool.

<Note>
  Disabling for pixi also logs pixi out of `repo.anaconda.cloud` when it removes the channel. You might need to authenticate again to use other private channels on that host.
</Note>

### Skip confirmation

After reviewing the intended changes, use `--force` for unattended configuration:

```sh theme={null}
ana feature enable main-x --conda --force
```

Authenticate before running this in CI. `--force` skips the configuration confirmation; it does not install a missing package manager or supply credentials.

## Outerbounds

Use `ana platform` to access Outerbounds on macOS and Linux. No feature flag is needed, and ana installs the tool when needed.

Log in, then inspect the available commands:

```sh theme={null}
ana login
ana platform --help
```

To configure an instance, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana platform configure --instance <INSTANCE>
```

<Comments>
  Replace \<INSTANCE> with the instance hostname supplied by your organization, such as `your-org.outerbounds.com`.
</Comments>

Platform commands are not available in conda-packaged builds. Consult your organization's Outerbounds instructions for instance access and deployment requirements.
