The Anaconda CLI (`ana`) lets you log in to Anaconda, manage tools, and configure package sources. You do not need Python or conda to install it. To create environments, use conda or pixi alongside ana.

## Before you begin

* Use macOS on Apple Silicon, Linux on x86\_64 or aarch64, or Windows on x86\_64.
* On Windows, use PowerShell 5.1 or later.
* Connect to the internet to download ana and its companion tools.

These instructions install the latest release. For release history, see [Release notes](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/release-notes).

## Install

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Windows PowerShell">
    To install ana in `%USERPROFILE%\.local\bin`, run:

    ```powershell theme={null}
    powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -Command "Invoke-RestMethod https://anaconda.sh/install.ps1 | Invoke-Expression"
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="macOS / Linux">
    To install ana in `~/.local/bin`, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    curl --fail --silent --show-error --location https://anaconda.sh/install.sh | sh
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Open a new terminal after installation, then check that ana is ready to use:

```sh theme={null}
ana --version
ana --help
```

### Installation options

For a custom installation directory or automated setup, download the installer and pass the options you need:

</GTable>

To inspect the shell installer's full options without installing ana, run:

```sh theme={null}
curl --fail --silent --show-error --location https://anaconda.sh/install.sh --output install.sh
sh install.sh --help
```

Keep download verification enabled. For login in automated workflows, see [Authentication](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication).

## Authenticate

To connect ana to your Anaconda account, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana login
```

Follow the browser prompts to sign in. Once complete, check your account:

```sh theme={null}
ana whoami
```

For API key login, CI/CD configuration, and other authentication methods, see [Authentication](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication).

## Set up companion tools

The installer attempts to set up companion tools automatically. If that step did not complete, or you skipped it, run the following after logging in:

```sh theme={null}
ana bootstrap
```

Bootstrap installs the tools used by `ana org` and `ana channel`. Running it again leaves an existing installation unchanged. It does not install conda or add an `anaconda` command to your shell. For updates, see [Update tools](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/tools#update-tools).

[MCP client setup](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/mcp) is built into ana and does not require bootstrap.

To learn more about the remote service and its capabilities, see [Anaconda MCP](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-mcp/main).

To see managed tools and available installer downloads, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana tool list
```

## Install an environment manager

If you already use conda or pixi, continue to [configure package sources](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/features).

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Miniconda">
    To download and verify the Miniconda installer for your platform, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    ana tool download miniconda
    ```

    Run the installation command printed by ana, or open the downloaded `.exe` on Windows. Ana downloads the installer but does not execute it. For the complete workflow, see [Download and install Miniconda](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/tools#download-and-install-miniconda).
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="pixi">
    To install pixi as a managed tool, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    ana tool install pixi
    ```

    For details about its default channel configuration, see [Install a tool](/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/tools#install-a-tool).
  </Tab>
</Tabs>
